  4. MEMMAX usage.

  6. The following describes a information for DRDOS 5.00 and
  7. EMM386.SYS or HIDOS.SYS that will simplify the MEM /A display so 
  8. that a customer can see and attempt maximizing the upper memory 
  9. area on a 386 or NEAT 286 machine.  
  10.     
  11. Load either EMM386 or HIDOS.SYS (depending on the machine being used) 
  12. with ALL the options set to NONE.  This will open access to upper 
  13. memory without placing anything there.  (One could also load  
  14. /BDOS=FFFF, but why complicate things.)
  15.     
  16. Set HIDOS=OFF.  This will keep the data structures from being moved 
  17. into upper memory.

  19. Reboot and say 'YES' to loading the memory driver.
  20.  
  21. Be sure that MEMMAX -U, the default in AUTOEXEC.BAT, has been removed, 
  22. REMed, or corrected with MEMMAX +U.

  24. Use MEM /A(P) to look at the FREE upper memory.  One can now begin to 
  25. add /INCLUDE or /USE statements in CONFIG.SYS to do screen dumps of 
  26. the MEM /A display of upper memory along the way followed by a TYPE 
  27. of the CONFIG.SYS file so one can compare the MEM /A display to check 
  28. for progress.
